The Gifts Of Imperfection is a book by famous writer & researcher Brene Brown. As the name suggests, the book talks about all the vulnerabilities of a person. As She went through different phases, she can connect deeply with her readers. The book “The Gifts of Imperfection” is a national bestseller. One facing problems in life & is clueless about the future can give it a try. Reading journeys of different individuals helps us to shine & get inspired as well. The book covers various topics & will touch you in some sense. Here is the book review of the book “The Gifts of Imperfection.”

I have the 10th-anniversary edition of this book. She starts the book with her thoughts on writing this book & how things have changed after a decade. The texts used in the first version are still intact with little moderation in the 10th edition. Brene Brown has used many quotes in the book, which blends perfectly with the book storyline. One can make a summary of quotes used in this book. The book covers topics like Wholehearted living, compassion, courage, etc that many of us know unconsciously. However, we don’t practice it enough in our daily lives.

Everyone lives their lives based on their true self. However, this book talks about the things we avoid while living. One of the quotes in the book, “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Every topic she covers depicts the story behind it. These are real-life stories & thus much more impactful. Her reasons for living a life with courage, compassion & connections will impact few lives if not the most.

Many thoughts come to our mind that hampers our progress for a more fulfilling living. If we successfully remove these from our minds, we can become complete & more content. Even these lines from the book suggest the same “If we want to live & love with our whole hearts, & if we want to engage with the world from a place of worthiness, we have to talk the things that get in the way- especially shame, fear & our resistance to vulnerability.”

The biggest roadblock to humans is the feeling of shame & guilt. These are the biggest culprit & we should try to overcome these. The best remedy to shame is to develop shame resilience. As the author stated, “Shame resilience is the ability to recognize shame, to move through it constructively while maintaining worthiness & authenticity, & to ultimately develop more courage, compassion, & connection as a result of our experience.”

The book is not lengthy & one can be completed in a quick time. After completing the chapters, 9 guideposts will further help you to improve your life one step at a time. These nine guideposts comprise topics like Letting go of what people think, letting go of perfectionism, letting go of scarcity & fear of the dark, letting go of the need of certainty, letting go of comparison, etc. These guideposts are the summary of things that one should let go of & improve on the self.
